Confusion through sand

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw8fk-xA5KI

  1. Confusion through sand

  1. Hand drawn stop motion.

  1. It shows the feeling of being alone in a hostile place with nowhere to run.

  1. 3 soldiers dropped into a warzone and were ambushed, they got split up (presumably the other were K.I.A). We then follow the last remaining soldier as he tries to survive. Unfortunately he is shot and killed at the end of the animation.

  1. Its main reason as to why it was interesting, is that it was all animated on sandpaper so it could get the very course effect.

  1. Making course  and sporadic lines shows how sight is unclear from the soldiers perspective.

The Old Man and The Sea

  1. The Old Man and The Sea

  1. Looks like painted animation.

  1. Being alone in a barren place where they have to fish to survive.

  1. An old man goes out to sea all by himself in a small sail boat to fish, he ends up catching a rather rare but strong fish. He catches the fish but its too big to put on his boat, so he straps it to the side where it is later eaten by hungry sharks while the old man is sailing back.

  1. It was interesting as sometimes fishing can be rather intense.

  1. The underwater scenes were very good as it restricted how far away you can view stuff.

Drums West

  1. Drums West

  1. Stop motion

  1. There does not seem to be a narrative but it is rather abstract with the entire animation being solely around the beat of the drums.

  1. Colourful lines appear and disappear on beat with the audio, which is only drums.

  1. It is quite interesting as since every major change in its animation is on beat, it satisfies the viewer.

  1. I like the idea that making changes in the animation should be done on beat when possible.

“The Happy Prince” and “The Selfish Giant”

  1. “The Happy Prince” and “The Selfish Giant”

  1. Drawn animation

  1. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor, in hopes that something will prosper.

  1. We follow the perspective of a swallow that can talk. It talks to a statue of a prince that is made of expensive materials like gold and sapphire. The statue wants to give what it is made of to the poor people, the swallow is hesitant but agrees. Once all of the statue's valuables were gone, the people decided to tear down the statue and melt it to get any materials that are left. We find an unmeltable heart which is tossed away to reveal the swallow that was helping the statue is dead.

  1. The narrative was your standard robin hood type story but the ending was somehow heart warming as they were together till the end.

  1. I guess I could try and implement a strong narrative into my animation.

The Danish Poet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_YCIlQYmCQ

  1. The Danish Poet

  1. Simple drawn animation (with computer)

  1. The theory of life and coincidences that lead up to your birth.

  1. Romeo and Juliet esque. We follow an animator's heritage all the way back to their great grandparents. From their grandparents we see how they fell in love and how they could not be together because of family beliefs. We then see her mother when she was young and follow her up until she meets the soon to be husband.

  1. It is interesting how perspective can change the story.

  1. I could try and change the viewer's perspective on the situation.
